My review of PocketFritz2 I bought PocketFritz2 as a program to help me analyze games from playchess.com server. Conclusion: Maybe I am doing something incorrectly, but for me PocketFritz2 is not working. PocketFritz is good as chess playing program but very bad for analyzing games. Details: I will describe my second try to use PocketFritz2 as analyzing program. First try I did right after I bought PocketPC and PocketFritz2, but it was a few months ago, so I decided to give PocketFritz2 another chance. I found that there is Service Pack 2 available, so I installed it first. PocketFritz2 cannot read the standard Chessbase database, it can open only PGN file. I started Shredder on PC computer, made empty PGN file, copied 1700 games into that file. I loaded that file into Shredder and everything looked good. Shredder created 3 files, 2 small files and 1 big PGN file - 6.8MB. I copied the files to PocketPC and opened the PGN from PocketFritz2. Instead of 1700 games I had 6600 entries, most of them blank lines, some games are shown 2times. Try to open wrong one (and you don’t know for sure which one is good and which is bad) and the PocketFritz2 will freeze. You can close it, but cannot use it aymore. You have to reset the PocketPC by pressing the hole with a stick. It is unacceptable, but it will get worse. Open a game and choose option to display moves. And at this time you will start swearing!!! In the moves list, you will see 2 moves in 2 lines, and 7 lines junk like [%emt 0:00:00] [%eval -101.1]. I tried to change display settings, but you cannot modify anything!!! Believe it or not I entered some games manually to be able to analyze games!!! But PocketFritz2 sucks even in this case. Other bad things about PocketFritz2: -When displaying games in database, it is difficult to see who is playing black -You cannot load any standard Chessbase book -You cannot modify the book inside PocketFritz2, you can choose only BestMove, Tournament, or Normal modes and no more. -You cannot search position in your games database, but you can search position in Chessbase database on internet - which is very stupid, especially if you don’t have internet connection, and even with internet working - it is useless feature for computer games.
